Home Décor Tips for 2022

Want to give your home a new lease on life for the new year? We’ve all had to spend a lot more time at home over the last couple of years, and it has made us want to redesign our living spaces so we can get more enjoyment from them. But knowing where to start can be tricky if you’re not an interior designer.

Don’t worry! Here, we'll take a look at some of the trending home décor styles for 2022, including easy DIY projects, to help you fall in love with your home all over again.

Home Décor Tips for 2022

1. Use of color

For many years now, beige minimalism has been the go-to style for interiors. No more! Spending more time at home during the pandemic has led to us wanting to bring more joy into the house by experimenting with color in every room.

Green is a trendy choice, given its soothing properties and affiliation with nature. All shades of green are trending, from a neutral sage through to deep jewel tones in the living room and bedroom. Dark blue is an on-trend shade to paint your kitchen cabinets. Or, if you’re feeling courageous, why not experiment with Pantone’s color of the year – Very Peri, a bright periwinkle shade guaranteed to add excitement to your décor scheme?

2. Biophilic design

Biophilic design refers to the use of nature in interior décor. Whether you choose to become a plant parent or you prefer to invest in some no-maintenance faux plants and flowers, that little touch of greenery will bring your space to life and make all the difference in your mood. Succulents are renowned for being easy to care for, as are snake plants and pothos if you don’t have a particularly green thumb.

If your space looks out onto grass and trees, even better! If privacy is not a concern, make the most of this by discarding any heavy window treatments, choosing sheer drapes, or even doing away with window coverings altogether.

3. Wallpaper

Wallpaper has come a long way in recent years – it’s no longer just for your grandparents! Designs are now bold and modern, adding much-needed pops of color and pattern to our homes. You can go exotic with a jungle theme or choose an abstract design to add visual interest to your space. Alternatively, if you prefer a more pared-back look, choose a simple grasscloth paper to give your room some texture and personality.

Wallpaper doesn’t have to be off the table, even if you're renting! There are now plenty of attractive peel-and-stick designs ideal for temporary use. You can simply peel them off at the end of your lease, returning your rental to its previous bland décor.

4. Mixing different textures

As we have spent so much more time at home recently, we have realized that the feel of our homes is just as important as how they look. We want our living spaces to feel comfortable and welcoming instead of too precious to live in. The best way to achieve a warm and cozy ambiance is by mixing different textures. Consider using different tones of wood, leather, and metallic accents in the same space – and of course, don’t forget all those pillows and throw blankets! Ideally, choose different materials and patterns to create more sensory interest. For example, velvet and boucle are particularly on-trend due to their tactile properties.

5. Shop your own home

These days, we are more aware of sustainability and caring for the environment. Fast furnishings are as bad as fast fashion when it comes to creating waste. Instead of buying new, take a look at what you already have in your home. Even swapping out throw pillows between your bedroom and your living room or switching up your artwork can make a tremendous difference to the look and feel of your space.

Consider vintage pieces, too – whether it’s Grandma’s attic or a local antique market, you never know where you’ll find the classic piece that will provide that all-important finishing touch for your home. Of course, if it’s not in perfect condition or not quite to your taste, you can always give it a new lease on life with a fresh coat of paint.
